How senior players’ exits impacted Chaine at Pirates

Published on by

In the concluded Premier Soccer League transfer window, Orlando Pirates released goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Ofori has since joined AmaZulu while Mpontshane is serving the Buccaneers as one of the goalkeepers' trainers.

The 27-year-old Chaine has conceded the duo's exit has added up more responsibilities to shape the other custodians. Melusi Buthelezi, who is 26, Siyabong Dladla, 23, and Ethan Visagie ,22, are the other two showstoppers at Bucs.

‘I want to help others become the best' – Chaine

“I think with roles it’s just in general in life, the higher the role the more responsibility you get, and the more you can stretch yourself and become better,” the custodian said ahead of the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch.

“I think with me being in the position I am today; I still help myself. But the most important thing is to help other people become the best they can, in this moment, it’s been a very important role for me and a very important space for me to be in.

“To be able to recognise that the game is just not about me, or the team as a priority and whoever is on the pitch we try to help the best we can, for them to also be the best they can be, it’s the most important thing,” Chaine concluded.

The Bafana Bafana international has made 60 appearances for the Soweto giants and has so far won two MTN8 crowns and as many Nedbank Cups.

This season, he has already played 10 matches for Pirates across all competitions and helped them avoid defeat.
