Hugo Broos unfazed by Congo’s internal strife

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos does not feel that the internal strife within Congo’s camp will have a bearing on the result between the two sides.

South Africa face Congo in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Gqeberha on Friday before taking on the same opponent away on Tuesday but the Congolese camp is rocked by a fight between the government and the federation, Fecofoot.

The Congo government removed Fecofoot from staff offices on the eve of an extraordinary general assembly for the federation over a number of issues which has affected their preparations with the team yet to be unveiled ahead of the meeting with South Africa.

What does Broos think of Congo’s problems?

However, Broos is not getting drawn into the off-field problems of their opponents, only focused on what his charges can deliver.

”I heard that those are the things that happened in Brazzaville. What can we do, we play Friday here at home against Congo, and after that we will see, so let's focus on the Friday game and focus on the victory,” Broos said as per SABC.

“But at the end it is on the pitch not the things that happen outside. It is not our problem, it is the problem of the Congolese team – let's see what happens in the next weeks.”

Bafana coach guarding against complacency

Congo started their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win at home to South Sudan before losing 2-0 to Uganda, and Broos knows Bafana Bafana’s work is cut out.

”Congo is more of a technical team, not a powerful team that plays football, but it doesn't mean they are bad. You have seen the past results were not positive, and we don't have to make them feel there's a chance to get a point here,” he added.

“But we don't underestimate an opponent like this, for us we need to play our game and if we can succeed that and have a right mindset. We will have to report and that will depend on our performance.”
