Hunt opens up on missing ‘best Chiefs player’ & lauds Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs made seven signings in the concluded transfer window in their bid to rebuild after finishing in an embarrassing 10th position in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Fiacre Ntwari, Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Gaston Sirino, and Bradley Cross have since been featured regularly by coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Dortley was signed from Cape Town Spurs to strengthen the left side of central defense which had been problematic for the Glamour Boys. The 22-year-old has settled well at the club and his contribution in the Carling knockout was massive.

The Swanky Boys coach Gavin Hunt insists Dortley is a good player, and that he had tried to sign him three years ago but failed.

Dortley was the best player for Chiefs' – Hunt

“Let's be honest, he [Nabi] has had an effect on buying new players and obviously coming with [the technical team],” the 60-year-old

“He has done a great job, I don't think they could have gone worse than last year, let's be honest. I mean, we tried to sign Dortley. I tried to sign him three years ago, I think he's the best left-side center-back in South Africa. He's fantastic. He made the difference against us [in the Carling Knockout].

“He was the best player for them. I mean, he made interceptions, blocks, headers away and he can play.”

The defender is expected to start his sixth consecutive game for the Glamour Boys across all competitions on Wednesday against Magesi FC. Nabi's outfit will be aiming at bouncing back from the 1-0 loss suffered against SuperSport United on Saturday.
