‘I was not born at Sundowns’: Bongani Zungu

Published on by

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has explained the ease of his transition to AmaZulu FC, despite the perceived step down in club stature.

Zungu, nicknamed “Ben 10,” left Sundowns at the end of last season and spent several months without a club.

He was linked to various teams, including Wydad Casablanca, before ultimately signing for Usuthu in December.

Zungu attributes his smooth adaptation to AmaZulu to his prior experience with smaller clubs.

He began his professional career with Dynamos and AmaTuks before his initial stint at Sundowns in 2013.

ZUNGU ON TRANSITION FROM BIG TO SMALL TEAM

“It is challenging, but it’s a very good challenge because it helps you challenge yourself,” Zungu told iDiski Times.

“You come from an environment where you would win 15 games in a row and then you come to a team that hasn’t been consistent, it is a different challenge.

“But it’s a good challenge for your career because it’s not like I was born at Sundowns. I come from Dynamos, I come from AmaTuks, even in Europe, the only big club I played for was Rangers.

“But most of the clubs were fighting and fighting to stay up. So, for me, I’m quite familiar with this type of environment. It’s not like really a big, big challenge because I’ve been there before.”
