‘It’s not about stadium!’ Petersen concedes Chiefs under ‘rough patch’

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has played down suggestions that playing home games in Durban and Polokwane is affecting their performance.

In the ongoing campaign, the Glamour Boys have played just two home games at their primary venue the FNB Stadium, while the Moses Mabhida and Peter Mokaba Stadiums have shared two games apiece.

A section of Amakhosi fans argue the players are struggling to deliver at home owing to the aforementioned nomadic act. They believe players lack the necessary stability to deliver when they host games.

Petersen adamant it is just a bad run

However, Petersen sees no problem with playing games in Polokwane or Durban. He insists the team is just struggling but soon everything will fall into place.

“I think we're just going through a bit of a rough patch and it has nothing to do with where we play our home matches. It doesn't make any difference where we play because we always feel at home everywhere in the country,” Petersen told the media.

“We've already won games in Durban and Polokwane this season, so you can't say it unsettles us to play there. Yes, there's a bit of travelling but it's not something that you can complain about when you know you also have fans in these cities. Maybe the argument would've been solid had we not won games at Moses Mabhida and Peter Mokaba stadiums.”

On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs play Sekhukhune United in the Premier Soccer League outing at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

They will then play Free Agents in the Nedbank Cup's Round of 32 hoping to go all the way in their bid to end the decade-long silverware drought.
