The veteran coach has weighed in on the midfielder’s decision to extend his Sundowns stay
Pitso Mosimane feels Teboho Mokoena’s chances of playing overseas are now slim after he agreed to a new contract at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The midfielder penned a new five-year contract with the PSL champions last week which will see him tied to the club until 2029, ending speculation about his future.
Mokoena was linked to clubs abroad after yet another bright season with the Brazilians and Mosimane, who was part of those who shaped the midfielder’s career, had urged him to consider a club in the Middle East before his decision to stick with Sundowns.

Will Mokoena regret signing a new deal at Sundowns?
The former Sundowns coach now believes the chances of Mokoena playing abroad are all but over as it would take a mammoth offer to buy him out if his new deal.
“What can we say? It’s all about money; it’s all about the future,” Mosimane told FARPost.
“I was expecting that the boy was going to leave Sundowns, but not in a bad way. This was going to help our national team as well. Then, he decided to stay at Sundowns after he was offered a new deal.
“I’m worried now as to when he will leave, considering his age. He’s around 27, and they have given him a five-year contract, it will expire when he’s 32.

It will take a big offer for the Brazilians to sell Mokoena
“I don’t see him going overseas now, unless there is a team that can come and buy him out of his contract, which I think it’s very impossible.”
Mokoena has been a huge success since he joined Sundowns from rivals SuperSport United in 2022, featuring in 93 matches while scoring nine goals, added to seven assists.
Sundowns were keen not to lose one of their key players and moved with speed to tie him to a long-term deal to fend off suitors.
