Renowned South African football analyst Junior Khanye has spoken out on he feels about being snubbed by his former side Kaizer Chiefs with the club’s legends to play Bloemfontein Celtic legends.
The match will take place on Sunday as a curtain raiser to the main event which will see Chiefs first team taking on Young Africans in the inaugural Toyota Cup.
Chiefs blended together most players who played for the side between 1995 and 2010 with those who played from 2010 to 2020.
Khanye, who was a promising youngster for Amakhosi in the early 2000s, wasn’t given a call-up.
He insisted he is not sad about the situation, saying he doesn’t take the selection seriously.
JUNIOR KHANYE’S FEELINGS ON BEINGS SNUBBED BY CHIEFS FOR LEGENDS MATCH
“It's not the first time that I have been asked this question and I'm happy that I get to address this issue once and for all,” Khanye told Soccer Laduma.
“Not being selected for the team of Chiefs' legends isn't something that is giving me sleepless nights. If I was someone who wakes up in the morning with nothing to do, I would get very worried.
“It's not like l've got nowhere to play at all, because I do get invited for games elsewhere as you might have seen recently that I was part of the celebrity team during their social games, and for me that's enough.
“Thanks to the Hip Hop guys for their invitation for me to be part of their team and life goes on. I know football and I understand these things, and therefore I don't take the (Chiefs) selection, or none of it, seriously.
“I don't spend too much time worrying about their selection, and I wasn't even aware of the players they have selected for the upcoming match.
“But because you have reminded me about it with your question, I feel I do need to acknowledge Kaizer Chiefs as a football club for how big they are, and as I always say, I have huge respect for Bra K (Kaizer Motaung, Chiefs chairman), Bobby (Motaung, Chiefs Football Manager) and everyone at the club.
“Chiefs gave me the platform to play football at professional level, and for that I will always have respect for them. My focus now is on my Reality Show – the Junior Khanye Fixing The Game, as well as my Podcast that I am starting.”
