Kaizer Chiefs announce legends squad to face Bloem Celtics legends in Toyota Cup clash

Kaizer Chiefs have revealed the squad for their legends team who will be taking on Bloemfontein Celtic legends in a curtain-raiser match before the pre-season friendly between Amakhosi and Tanzanian club, Young Africans in the inaugural Toyota Cup.

The match is set to take place on Sunday, 28 July at 15:00 at the Free State Toyota Stadium. The Legends game kicks off at 12:30 pm before the main event later.

The team blended together most  players who were active between 2000 and 2010 with those who played from 2010 to 2020.

KAIZER CHIEFS LEGENDS TEAM TO FACE BLOEMFONTEIN CELTIC LEGENDS 

GOALKEEPERS: Brian Baloyi, Aubrey Mathibe

DEFENDERS: Cyril Nzama, Bevan Fransman, Morgan Gould, Tsepo Masilela, Derrick Spencer, Fabian McCarthy

MIDFIELDERS: Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Willard Katsande, Josta Dladla, Thuso Phala, Mandla Masango, Jabu Mahlangu, Stanton Fredericks

STRIKERS: Collins Mbesuma, Bernard Parker, David Radebe

HEAD COACH: Thabo Mooki

Spearheading Chiefs for this encounter, Mooki reminisces about the 2004/05 season, where he lifted the league title against Bloemfontein Celtic at the very same venue.

“I vividly remember winning the league title against Celtic at the Toyota Stadium in 2005”, he recalled as quoted by Kaizer Chiefs website.

“We have a number of players in our team who always enjoyed playing Celtic and this game will be no different.”

Mooki extended a warm welcome to both newcomers and returning players to the Chiefs legends squad.

“With all of these games, we try to give a variety of players the opportunity to feature,” he said.

“We are happy to have Siphiwe Tshabalala, Fabian McCarthy and Stanton Fredericks back, and are buzzing to have Bernard Parker in the team for the first time.”

Meanwhile, Thabo Nthethe and Davids Modise are among Celtic legends who will represent Siwelele Sa Masele.
