Kaizer Chiefs coach Nabi lauded for securing Ntwari’s services – ‘He can play in Europe!’

The Glamour Boys have been strengthening their weak areas ahead of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season.

Kaizer Chiefs surprised many by overlooking Nigeria and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for TS Galaxy's Fiacre Ntwari.

The former had a good season that saw him play in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final with the Super Eagles. He was outstanding for the Chilli Boys who also reached the Nedbank Cup semi-final where they lost to Orlando Pirates.

However, it seems Amakhosi had made up their mind about Ntwari who was part of the Rockets team that reached the Carling Knockout final. The Rwanda international is seen as Itumeleng Khune's replacement. The latter is set to get another role after actively playing for 25 years.

‘Ntwari was our centre-back'

One of the factors that Nabi might have considered was the ability of the custodian to be involved in build-ups. Galaxy's goalkeepers' trainer Greg Etafia has now pointed out what the East African is bringing to Amakhosi.

“[Ntwari] is top, top. For me, he can play in Europe; he has good foot,” he told Far Post in a recent interview.

“He was our center-back when we played most of our games. When your defense is stable, including the goalkeeper, your team is half done.”

Ntwari played 32 games for Galaxy across all competitions, conceded 29 goals, and kept 13 clean sheets in the process. At Chiefs, Ntwari will be battling Bruce Bvuma who played as the team's first choice for the second half of the Premier Soccer League.

The custodian is expected to be unveiled alongside Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley ahead of the Toyota Cup game against Yanga SC.

The official business for Amakhosi will be a league game against Marumo Gallants on Saturday, August 14.
