Landing Cape Town Spurs youngster Asanele Velebayi's signature proves a tough challenge for Kaizer Chiefs as they face stiff competition from European and local clubs.
Amakhosi are hot on the heels of 21-year-old winger as the club continues to strengthen the team following the appointment of new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
A beacon of talent amidst a struggling team, Velebayi shone brightly last season despite Urban Warriors' relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
In addition to European interest, CT Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou told KickOff that three more South African clubs have enquired about Velebayi.
EUROPEAN AND SA CLUBS TARGETING VELEBAYI
“There are a few teams that want him now, the thing is there is interest from overseas as well for most of my players,” said Efstathiou.
“I won't say which clubs are interested, but there are three South African clubs that have approached us for him.
“I don't wanna put time frame on when a move might happen, but at the moment he is training with the team as we prepare for next season.
“Yes he might leave us, but at the moment we continuing planning with the squad we have.”
Velebhayi played 24 matches for the Western Cape-based side last season , scoring one goal in the process.
The Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, already secured a player from Cape Town Spurs with the signing of Rushwin Dortley, another young talent who impressed last season.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys have also been linked with Thabang Phete, Inacio Miguel, Grant Margeman, Lungelo Nguse, Oswin Appollis and Elias Mokwana.
So far, Amakhosi have signed Bongani Sam, Dortley and Fiacre Ntwari to reinforce their team as they aim to return stronger in the next campaign.
Chiefs were in Turkey for a pre-season camp and are expected to touch down in South Africa as they will be taking on Young Africans in the Toyota Cup on Sunday, 28 July at Free State Toyota Stadium.
