Kaizer Chiefs’ first Mokwana bid rejected amid Esperance talks

The Glamour Boys have been urged to present a better offer for the South Africa international despite links to North Africa.

Elias Mokwana has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs for the last couple of months owing to his influence at Sekhukhune United.

In the 2023/24 season, the 24-year-old winger played 25 Premier Soccer League matches for Babina Noko and was directly involved in eight goals – scored four and provided as many assists. His club went on to finish fourth on the PSL table to make a return to the Caf Confederation Cup for the second successive year.

Initial reports indicated the South African outfit has agreed to sell the Bafana Bafana international to Tunisian heavyweights Esperance. However, the speculations have been rubbished with Amakhosi seemingly leading the race for the services of the attacker.

Chiefs first offer rejected, Babina Noko anticipating another one

The Glamour Boys tabled an offer for the player, but Sekhukhune were not impressed since they felt it was too low for the player of Mokwana's quality.

“As things stand, Sekhukhune haven't agreed anything with any team. Elias is still part of the team and if there's any team that leads the race to sign him, it is Chiefs because they've tabled an offer that the club thought was unacceptable, hence they told them to come back with an improved one,” Sowetan Live reported.

“I remember the same thing happened when we sold them [Yusuf] Maart. Their initial offer was very little and they improved it after three days before signing him.

“So, I predict that the same thing will happen with Elias unless Esperance come with a huge offer in the meantime.”

Mokwana's agent Pontsho Madumo insisted his camp has heard nothing about the aforementioned teams.

“We know there's interest from various teams but so far no one has contacted the player. Maybe they are dealing with Sekhukhune. As the player's camp, we know nothing at this stage.”

The Soweto Giants are set to unveil their new signings on July 28.
