Doctor Khumalo raves about Gaston Sirino signing – ‘Exactly what Kaizer Chiefs need at the moment’

The Amakhosi legend is thrilled by the arrival of the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star at Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo believes the club have found a top player in Gaston Sirino who completed a transfer to Amakhosi last week.

The Uruguayan was deemed surplus to requirements at Mamelodi Sundowns, who offloaded him when his contract expired at the end of last season, and Chiefs have wasted not time to add him to their squad.

New Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi specifically requested to have Sirino join the club and Khumalo feels the tactician and the club will benefit massively from his experience.

‘He was not given a fair deal at Sundowns’

“Having watched him play at [Mamelodi] Sundowns, he did well,” Khumalo told Soccerzone.

“But I think he comes to Chiefs in his category right, he really wants to play. He was not given a fair deal at Sundowns and I’m not talking bad about them, but I’d like to believe that.

“But now, he also comes to a new setup, because of new coaches, who are highly qualified and I’d like to believe that Nabi and his team will benefit out of Sirino’s experience because this is exactly what Kaizer Chiefs need at the moment.”

Sirino brings plenty of experience to Chiefs

Sirino signed a two-year contract at Chiefs and is set to add experience and creativity to the side after spending six-year at Sundowns where he won as many PSL titles.

Success-starved Chiefs will hope that he can bring some trophy-winning magic to the club to end their nine-year wait for silverware.

What’s more for the Glamour Boys is that Sirino recently acquired a South African passport which means he will not eat into their foreign quota as they can add another player from outside the country to beef up the squad.
