Kaizer Chiefs & Mamelodi Sundowns to take part in new cup

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will face off on multiple occasions this season after it was confirmed that the two PSL giants are among four teams set to feature in a new tournament.

The Home of Legends Cup was launched at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday where it was revealed that Chiefs and Sundowns, as well as Chippa United and Golden Arrows, will take part.

Dates and format of the tournament are yet to be revealed but it will be another piece of silverware for the Nasreddine Nabi-coached Chiefs to fight for.

Kaizer Chiefs have already tasted silverware

Chiefs won the CUFA Cup last weekend following a 4-3 post-match penalties win over Marumo Gallants, which has ignited a fire in their belly to go for more this season, as the Tunisian coach continues to revive their fortunes.

Meanwhile, Sundowns have been on a roll since ending their early season blues, winning their last five matches in the PSL and Champions League.

Their last victory was 2-1 win over Chiefs in the PSL, a match that was marred by claims of poor officiating, and the two sides also set up a friendly tie during the international break.

The Home of Legends Cup therefore is another opportunity to test themselves once more this season.

Chiefs will be in action this weekend when they face SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 on Saturday while Sundowns host Golden Arrows on the same day, a good preparation for the Home of Legends Cup meeting between the two.
