Kaizer Chiefs transfer boost? Key target Feisal Salum makes decision on his future

Published on by

Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum has reportedly decided not to extend his contract with his current club Azam FC in what could be a boost to Kaizer Chiefs.

Salum is among players Chiefs are believed to have placed on their list of transfer targets to strengthen their attacking midfield but could not secure him in the midseason window as Azam were not willing to listen to offers.

The club reacted by tabling a new contract offer to the midfielder that includes a reported signing-on fee of $320,000 (R6.6 million) and a monthly salary of $12,000 (R223,315) to convince him to extend his stay with the Dar es Salaam-based side.

However, Africafoot now reports that the midfielder has turned it down as he is weighing up his options and will be looking to move at the end of the season or run down his contract, which has 16 months left, and leave as a free agent.

“Feisal Salum has made his decision and informed the club that he will not extend his contract,” a source close to the player told the outlet.

“He is enjoying his experience at Azam, a big club, but he wants to explore new opportunities at the end of the season. A move to Kaizer Chiefs? It is still too early to say for sure, but it is a very serious possibility.”

Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi knows Salum very well after working with him during his two-year stint in Tanzania with Yanga between 2021 and 2023.

Salum, popularly known as Fei Toto, scored 21 goals for Azam last season and has four goals and eight assists already this season.

Mamelodi Sundowns have also been credited with an interest as well as Tanzanian giants Simba SC, currently coached by South African coach Fadlu Davids.
