The East Africans are in Mzansi to prepare for the new campaign both domestically and abroad.
Yanga SC coach Miguel Gamondi is convinced Wananchi will be a little bit better when they play Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup game on Sunday.
The Tanzanian champions are in Mzansi for pre-season where they are taking part in the Mpumalanga Premier's International Cup. In their opening game, the East Africans were defeated 2-1 by Bundesliga outfit Augsburg.
However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician claimed his team struggled to keep up with the Germans because the players were not physically ready. The 57-year-old is happy he did not turn down the chance to take part in the annual preparatory tournament since it is a learning curve for the playing unit.
It is very nice to experience these games
Gamondi was impressed with the good account his players exhibited despite the loss, insisting there is improvement in African football.
“We are not at the right time to play this high-level game, but we decided to play because it’s a learning game for us, it’s very nice to experience these types of games,” he stated in a presser.
“[Augsburg] have all the financial means and everything but in Africa, little by little we are growing up. We showed tactically that our players are ready. I think all of Tanzania must be proud of the performance.
“The result is not the most important. The most important was how the team played, and how they showed character. The character was unbelievable and we need to continue to work.”

Chiefs warned – ‘We will be a little bit more fit'
Amakhosi have been camping in Turkey, and recently they beat Qatari Stars League side Al Shahaniya SC 5-2 in a friendly outing. Gamondi is convinced his team will be ready to deliver as anticipated once they get on the pitch against the Soweto heavyweights.
“We have one week more to work, to be a little bit more fit and more tactically working, but not 100% like we were last season. I think Chiefs will be in the same position. Football for me as a coach, football is a show. We need to play football, we need to play attacking.
“For me, it would’ve probably been easier to play five defenders [against Augsburg], park the bus, and see what happens, but it’s not my style and I think with Chiefs will be a nice game as well because we will play attractive football.”
Chiefs are expected to unleash their new signings just before the fixture.
