Kaizer Chiefs youngster Vilakazi responds to showboating critics – ‘I don’t care’

The teenager has been in the limelight for the skill he displayed a couple of weeks ago against Wananchi

Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi is adamant negative vibe will not stop him from showboating especially if the technical team, led by coach Nasreddine Nabi, is comfortable with it.

The teenager has been on the receiving end after showing what was deemed as an unnecessary skill when his team was trailing Young Africans of Tanzania 2-0 in pre-season's Toyota Cup which eventually ended 4-0 in favour of the East Africans.

Yanga's dangerman Stephane Aziz Ki went on to term the skill as ‘nonsense‘. A couple of days ago, the 18-year-old said he had a chat with Nabi on the same, and his coach confirmed he had no problem with it, as long as it benefited the team.

Vilakazi responds to critics – ‘I don't care'

The versatile attacker has now said he does not care what some people are thinking as long as his coach and teammates are comfortable.

“Usually, I don't read comments on social media. I don't care what people say, so I don't think that it hurts me, as long as the coach and the team are happy,” he told the media.

“I take criticism as motivation that I must work even harder and if people praise me, that says I must continue doing well.

“The league will start and when I score, the very same people who are criticizing me will be saying ‘Hey Mfundo this and that, you must go and play overseas', forgetting that they are the ones who were criticizing me when I did a trick against Yanga.”

What will Vilakazi do to be a regular at Chiefs?

Last season, the Amakhosi graduate played just seven games for the Glamour Boys across all competitions.

With Chiefs under pressure to deliver after finishing 10th in the Premier Soccer League last season, Villakazi has pointed out what he should do to ensure he commands a starting berth at Amakhosi.

“I think this season I have to work harder so that I will be able to start games. Starting games would boost my confidence and would also help me improve where I should.”

The midfielder is currently with Amajita, preparing for the Cosafa Cup. He was on target as the U20 team defeated Lesotho 3-1 on Saturday in a friendly fixture.
