‘Karma bit Al Ahly but plumber took Downs to final! Ref denied us a penalty, but where did he get three minutes?

Mamelodi Sundowns are into the Caf Champions League final after a 1-1 draw in Cairo against Al Ahly, thanks to the away goal rule.

The first leg at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium ended goalless, meaning any scoring draw could work in favour of the defending Premier Soccer League champions. They will now play Pyramids who eliminated Orlando Pirates from the competition.

Have a look at what the fans said after Sundowns reached their first Caf Champions League final since 2016, when they won it.

Caf should copy UEFA and abolish the away goal rule. It's not a fair way of judging a football match. Neither of the two teams is superior to the other; so why should one go through at the expense of the other? –  Promise Ifeanyi Agwu

Time and chance happen to everyone; what a lucky win. But this is good for South African football. We have, for the longest time, been made to believe we’re inferior –  Moses Moreroa

Congratulations Mamelodi Sundowns, but where did the referee get the three extra added minutes? – Nicholas Musonda

Great win against a referee who added many minutes and refused a VAR clear penalty. Well done, Sundowns – Thembela Khalishwayo

Esperance and Al Ahly were the toughest opponents to eliminate, now we have one more obstacle to conquer – Phindile Mkhonza

Karma came to bite Al Ahly with that own goal. Well done Mamelodi Sundowns – Khulekani Wolfgang

Pay attention, this is exactly how the 2025 Afcon will play out in December. If you understand football, you'll know South Africa will it against a North African country – Neo Malapane

Well done to Miguel Cardoso and Mamelodi Sundowns. It’s going to be a great final. Keep pushing – Thulaganyo Tom Mogale

Football can be cruel sometimes; Cairo is red but bleeding yellow blood – Ronald Rowland Masheleng

The so-called plumber sent us to the final, where the so-called good coaches couldn't – Walter Riser Da'Reez
