Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Katlego Mphela has identified a lack of strong leadership as one of main issues behind the club's struggles, particularly during the current season.
Under coach Nasreddine Nabi in the 2024/25 campaign, Amakhosi have shown inconsistency, with a record of 10 wins, 10 losses, and 5 draws in their 25 matches played so far across all competitions.
In the Betway Premiership, Chiefs occupy eighth position with 29 points after 22 games.
Mphela believes one of the significant contributing factors to this inconsistency is the lack of strong leadership within the team.
He believes Chiefs should have brought a big figure to replace previous captain Itumeleng Khune.

‘LEADERSHIP IS NOT ENOUGH AT CHIEFS’
“I also think the leadership is not enough at Kaizer Chiefs,” Mphela told iDiski Times.
“When you have someone like [Itumeleng] Khune that leaves the club, a big personality, an important member of the squad, you need to replace him with the same quality or someone who’s going to step in and have those leadership qualities.
“So, for them, I think that’s a problem, but they need to push this season and see where they end up.
“But obviously they’ll want to be in the top four, so hopefully, they get there, but with the inconsistency, I don’t see them even reaching the top four.”
