Khama Billiat describes his stay at Kaizer Chiefs

Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat has reflected on his five-year stay at Kaizer Chiefs, which ended at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

Billiat’s departure came as a shock given his key role at Amakhosi. Many were expecting Chiefs to pull out all the stops to retain his services.

Billiat joined Chiefs in 2018 from Mamelodi Sundowns with the goal of helping the club end its three-year trophy drought. However, he left without winning any silverware.

When asked about his time at Chiefs, Billiat acknowledged the positive experiences.

This includes reaching the CAF Champions League final in 2021 where they lost to Al Ahly and playing all the big matches he got to experience.

BILLIAT ON HIS TIME AT KAIZER CHIEFS

“I feel like, out of everything that was being said about me and all that, I enjoyed my time at Chiefs,” Billiat told iDiski Times.

“They gave me an opportunity to play in the Champions League final. I don’t know how many players would have that opportunity.

“I still have the feeling, I still remember the day like yesterday. I wanted it so much, but after the game, you look at it in a way whereby, ‘Hey, how many people would have loved to be here?’ So I feel like I enjoyed my time.

“The only thing that I really thought maybe could have changed everything is having a trophy, which God knows why (laughs). So, ja, I really enjoyed my time. I look at the games.

“I thought I had some games that I really played even way better than I used to, and I grew as a player.

“Chiefs is a big team, and even mentally, you get stronger and stronger. Every team wants to beat you.

“Every game is a Cup Final, and the fans come in numbers every game. So it’s something. It’s a great experience I have, despite just not having a cup but like I really enjoyed my time.”
