Khoza receives a vote of confidence amid PSL sponsorship changes – ‘Clubs are in good hands’

The Rockets chairman is convinced the PSL leadership will deliver with its members set to gain as usual.

TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi is convinced the Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza will make the right decision regarding the expected sponsorship changes.

Reports are rife DStv will not be title sponsors for the new campaign despite their deal – which they signed in 2020, coming to a close at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The PayTV succeeded ABSA, but finer details of the contracts were not publicly shared by the involved parties. Grapevine has it that betting firm Betway is in advanced talks with the league managers to take over.

‘Khoza has done wonderful things over many years'

Sukazi has no doubt the Orlando Pirates chairman will make a sound decision alongside the board members regarding the well-being of one of the best leagues in Africa.

“If anything of that sort happens I have trust and confidence in my executive, I have trust and confidence in our chairman,” the administrator opened up to the media.

“He has done wonderful things over many years. He has done the impossible and I can safely say and rest assured everyone that we are in good hands. So if there is a situation it will be salvaged for sure. We’ll have football next season, that's all that I can say.

“No doubt about it and our league will remain just as prestigious if not more than what it was,” Sukazi continued.

“I think as football custodians we must hold it at this and afford our league the opportunity to obviously organize themselves. If there will be any kind of transition, allow transitioning us into a new era with a new partner if at all. I think that needs to be the spirit and approach. It’s easy sometimes to be hard and criticize things that you are not involved in because the armchair is very comfortable.”

ABSA sponsored PSL to the tune of R137 million per season; despite DStv not sharing the details of their engagement, reports have it that they reduced their sponsorship to R100 million during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is interesting to see what Betway brings on board if indeed they are confirmed as the new title sponsors.
