Latest on Khune’s Chiefs future after landing punditry gig

Itumeleng Khune was recently announced as an analyst for this season at SABC Sport. What does this mean about his future at Kaizer Chiefs? Here’s the latest update.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper was working at SABC along with Aaron Mokoena during the CAF Champions League clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Mbabane Swallows last week.

He is set to be a regular contributor this season for the public broadcaster, alongside another former Chiefs player, Jabu Mahlangu.

With Khune having maintained that he still wants to continue playing, Sekhukhune United showed interest in him, however, the move seems unlikely at this stage.

According to Soccer Laduma, Khune seems to have reconciled with the reality that he will not don the Chiefs jersey again. It appears he has embraced an ambassadorial and marketing role within the club.

WHAT’S LATEST ON ITUMELENG KHUNE’S FUTURE

“The current situation suggests that he will stay. Yes, he wanted to continue playing, but there were factors to consider, such as a potential decrease in financial benefits and salary,” said the source to Soccer Laduma.

“After evaluating these aspects, it was deemed more suitable for him to accept the ambassador and marketing department position.

“He won't continue playing and it seems he has come to terms with this, and his representatives are satisfied with the new role at the club. He is staying, that much I can tell you,”

Chiefs have permitted him to continue with his television commitments while he fulfills his responsibilities at Naturena.

“The club has given him the green light to do game analysis at SABC because he is no longer an active professional player,” Soccer Laduma’s source added.

“He will be working with the team's marketing department and serving as the club's ambassador, which allows him the flexibility to work at SABC during games.

“He has a strong understanding with Chiefs, and the club consistently supports him in his other endeavours.”
