South Africa’s top flight will make public the identity of their new partners

The PSL is set to reveal the identity of the league’s title sponsor after chairman Dr Irvin Khoza called for a press conference on Wednesday.

PSL has been on the hunt for a new title sponsor following uncertainty over the future of DStv and was in advanced talks to replace them even though they still have one year remaining on a deal they signed in 2020 after replacing long-term partners ABSA.

Talks had been centered on whether to cut ties immediately or after the 2024-25 season, which begins next month, but it appears the PSL has agreed to move on after landing a new title sponsor.

Gambling company betting big on PSL?

Sources have informed Afrik-Foot that gambling firm Betway is the company that has agreed to replace DStv as the PSL title sponsor and could be made public during Wednesday’s presser.

PSL never made public the financial details of their five-year deal with DStv after ending a reported R137 million per year partnership with ABSA which lasted since 2007.

The current deal is believed to be over R100 million with Premiership clubs getting R2 million grants which have been key in their sustainability.

However, the uncertainty over what will happen when the proposed sale of Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, is finalised with French firm Vivendi, the owner of Canal+, saw a huge cloud hang over the deal with the PSL and the league organisers had to move with speed.
