The Orlando Pirates striker is among players who have been recalled to the national team
Orlando Pirates duo of Tshegofatso Mabasa and Thabiso Sesane are among the new inclusions into the Bafana Bafana preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo.
South Africa face Congo Brazzaville in a double header next month, the first match scheduled for October at the Mandela Bay Stadium, before playing away at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat four days later.
Coach Hugo Broos has therefore named an experienced side while rewarding players who are on form with Mabasa making a return to the national team as well as his Pirates team-mate Sesane.
Who else has returned to the national team?
Also returning is Kaizer Chiefs new signing Bradley Cross while Chippa United defender Sinoxolo Kwayiba has also been included.
Meanwhile, Broos will have goalkeeper Ronwen Williams in goal after he missed last month’s matches against Uganda and South Sudan owing to an injury.
Williams has returned to action with his club Mamelodi Sundowns while attacker Percy Tau, who was dropped by Broos for not being mentally ready, should also return after turning out for Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League, and scoring two goals.

Bafana Bafana are keen on a positive outing
Meanwhile, it is a big win for Mabasa who had been snubbed by Broos consistently, his last spell in the national team being October 2021.
Bafana Bafana collected four points from their first two qualifying matches and are looking to maintain their unbeaten record against Congo who beat South Sudan before losing to Uganda.
