The PSL champions have added another South American to their squad

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales on a long-term deal.

The 22-year-old has switched to South Africa from Belgian side Lommel SK and is set to boost the PSL champions’ attack.

The Brazilian scored 10 league goals last season

Oliveira Sales managed 10 goals in the Belgian Pro League last season and the Brazilians felt that was enough to improve their squad which is set to challenge on multiple fronts in 2024-25, including the expanded FIFA Club World Cup next June.

The attacker is the second signing by the PSL giants who already lured South African winger Kobamelo Kodisang from Portuguese outfit Moreirense and handed him a five-year contract.

Sundowns appear to be looking for young and hungry players and tying them to long-term deals as they build a strong team that will compete for a number of years.

Sundowns are looking to replace Mendieta & Sirino

Masandawana have been light in attack after Junior Mendieta left for Greek side Volos FC this month while Uruguayan Gaston Sirino was among the players released.

A product of the famed Vasco da Gama, Oliveira Sales has also had loan spells at Bahia and Pacos de Ferreira.

Sundowns are currently in pre-season in Austria where they have played two games against German lower division side SV Sandhausen and Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kiev, losing 2-1 and 1-0 respectively, and will take on English club Cardiff City on July 23.
