Orlando Pirates star Thalente Mbatha emerged as a hero once again for Bafana Bafana, netting a decisive late goal that clinched a 3-2 victory over South Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers.
He had previously done the same last week, netting a late equaliser against Uganda as South Africa drew 2-2 in their opening qualifier.
Hugo Broos' men began the match with confidence, successfully breaking down the opponents' defense but unable to capitalise on their early chances.
South Sudan goalkeeper Majak Mawith made a crucial save, denying Teboho Mokoena's thunderous shot.
THREE GOALS SCORED IN THE FIRST HALF
In the 15th minute, South Sudan was awarded a penalty after Siyabonga Ngezana was deemed to have fouled a South Sudanese man in the box. Tito Okello converted the penalty, giving his side the lead.
However, Bafana responded quickly, equalising two minutes later through Oswin Appollis after a cut back from Aubrey Modiba.
In the 33rd minute, Mokoena missed a golden opportunity to put South Africa ahead, skying the ball over the bar after being set up by Themba Zwane.
Two minutes before halftime, South Africa appealed for a penalty after Khuliso Mudau's shot was blocked by Emmanuel Loki'a hand in the box. The referee dismissed their claims.

Just before halftime, Appollis scored his second goal of the match, capitalising on a rebound from Lyle Foster's shot that hit the post.
At halftime, the score was 2-1 in favor of South Africa.
South Africa resumed play in the second half with the same intensity they displayed before the break, dominating possession.
In the 56th minute, South Sudan mounted a rare counterattack and capitalized on a defensive lapse. Valentino Yuel found the net to level the score for the home side.
Broos' team responded with renewed vigor, pressing forward relentlessly in search of a winning goal.
LAST-GASP THALENTE MBATHA STRIKES AGAIN
In the final 20 minutes, the Belgian coach made attack-minded changes, replacing Siphephelo Sithole and Oswin Appollis with Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng.
In the final moments of the match, Bafana exerted all their efforts in pursuit of a winning goal, and their relentless endeavors paid off when substitute Mbatha netted a late goal, ensuring maximum points for the rainbow nation.
