Mbokazi drops Sundowns’ bold statement after MOM performance

Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi dropped a bold statement on Mamelodi Sundowns after the two sides’ clash on Sunday.

The Buccaneers' 2-1 win against the Brazilians has seen them reduce the deficit in the league standings. Jose Riveiro’s troops now sit 15 points behind log leaders the Tshwane giants, and importantly, they still have four matches in hand.

Relebohile Mofokeng was the hero, scoring the quickfire brace that propelled the Soweto giants to the victory.

Mbokazi, who won the man of the match, says Brazilians “wouldn’t come out alive” at FNB Stadium. He says coach Jose Riveiro had told them to die on the field if they had to.

‘THEY WERE NOT GONNA COME OUT ALIVE’

“We played very well against Downs, we trained hard the whole week preparing for them and we knew they were not gonna come out alive,” said Mbokazi as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Coach said we must die on the ground if we have to, and if you die it’s fine someone else will come in and do the work.

“We managed to score two early goals which helped us a lot. The second half was a bit tough, but 45 minutes is nothing when you are doing good in maintaining the pressure from the opposition which is what we did today.

“The forwards did their job by scoring, so we also had to do our job as defender and not concede but unfortunately we conceded which is not what we want but we will gladly accept the three points against a good side like Sundowns.”
