Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has warned against expecting his team to make a meal out of Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.
The Premier Soccer League champions have won all their last four matches across all competitions, scoring 14 goals in the process and conceding just one. It is a perfect reaction to their elimination from MTN8 against Stellenebosch.
On Sunday, Masandawana will be playing against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium. The last time the Glamour Boys beat the Brazilians was in April 2021. Since then, the Soweto giants have not won any of their last nine meetings across all competitions.
Don't pre-empt what will happen between Downs and Chiefs
After signing seven players in the concluded transfer window, Chiefs look stronger explaining why Mngqithi is anticipating a tough clash.
“It’s always difficult to pre-empt what is going to happen in the next match. It’s our wish to see the team scoring goals, it’s our wish to see the team creating a lot of opportunities,” the tactician stated.
“But with due respect, it’s always important to give respect to the opponents because you don’t want to go in that match with a sense that you are entitled to get the results, or you are entitled to score goals because at the moment Chiefs is also playing well, and they are really a big force in South African football.
“They still need to give the necessary respect that they deserve but be that as it may, we will try to give it our best shot and see what we can make out of it. Hopefully, the Gods of football will be with us to score those goals.”
