Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has ben lauded for showboating with a purpose.

A lot of South African players have been slammed for their tricks and flicks on the pitch which some observers claim to be disrespectful.

Mofokeng’s team-mate Patrick Maswanganyi is among those who have been criticised for showboating without a purpose but School of Excellence coach Masimanyane Xali is full of praise for the 20-year-old who he says does not just do the tricks for the sake of it.

“He joined us full time when he came to high school and I could see him become a better player and business-minded on the pitch,” Xali told iDiski Times regarding Mofokeng who passed through his hands.

Why is Xali impressed by Rele?

“Whereas most of his peers would show off their skills for the applause, Rele used them to win the game. He was always trying to win.

“Sure, he did those kasi tricks but in a competitive environment he always seemed to know what the purpose of playing was. He never played for the sake of playing or exciting the crowd.”
