Mokwana snubbed Chiefs! Motaung Jr. reveals winger ‘didn’t entertain personal terms’

Kaizer Chiefs have missed out on several targets in the ongoing transfer window despite their willingness to spend after finishing 10th in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Asanele Velebayi, Ashley Cupido, Khanyisa Mayo, and Clement Mzize are just some of the players who the Glamour Boys failed to sign.

In his recent interview with Radio2000, Amakhosi Sporting Director has revealed Sekhukhune United were ready to sell them South Africa international Elias Mokwana.

How did Chiefs miss out on Mokwana?

Motaung Jr. conceded Amakhosi had met the valuation by Babina Noko and were given permission to talk to the player, but an agreement was not reached and he ended up joining Tunisia heavyweights Esperance.

“It was true and we submitted an offer; we had extensive negotiations with Mr [Simon] Malatji, I met him numerous times and submitted our written offer,” he stated.

“We were even granted permission to speak to the player on personal terms. The player didn’t entertain the personal terms. I wouldn’t want to get into the details of the Esperance offer they were given, but we know what we put on the table exceeded the offer by Esperance at the time.

“I believe we acted in good faith, I want to thank Sekhukhune, they were able to recruit a player of his quality and nurtured him to be able to show his quality. They were well within their rights to ship him to a top league in Africa. Credit must go to them,” Motaung Jr. concluded.

Who have Chiefs signed?

So far, Nasreddine Nabi has managed to get seven new players ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

They have acquired the services of Fiacre Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino, Inasio Miguel Bradley Cross, and Njabulo Blom.

However, coach Nabi has confirmed they are still in the market for a striker who can help the team get goals on a regular basis. Fiston Mayele of Pyramids has been heavily linked with a move to the Soweto heavyweights.
