Munetsi offers odd comparison of European and African football

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Zimbabwe international midfielder Marshall Munetsi has offered a unique perspective into the differences between European and African football.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been playing in Europe since 2019 when he joined the French league side Stade Reims from Orlando Pirates.

He spent five years in France before signing for the English Premier League outfit Wolves in January this year.

Munetsi was speaking ahead of Zimbabwe’s clash with Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The former stated his belief that African football presents a greater challenge compared to the European game.

MUNETSI – AFRICAN FOOTBALL IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN EUROPEAN FOOTBALL

“I think I’ve only been there for a month, so I can’t really say it helped me but spending my time in France and South Africa playing against some of the big names in football and also sharing the pitch with some good leaders, I think it’s something you take as you go on,” he told the media as quoted by iDiski Times.

“The experience comes from learning from others that you compete with, that you share the dressing room with.

“I think in general, African football is much more difficult than European football. They always say it’s much more difficult to win an away game in Africa than in Europe, so that’s why all of you guys are always counting us out. There’s weather, there’s some funny tricks that do happen in African football.

“I think you get experience from playing and seeing what other people are achieving.”
