Mvala convinced Bafana can win 2025 Afcon – Expectations are very high

South Africa were placed in a tricky Group B in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.

Bafana Bafana shocked the continent in the 2023 edition when they reached the semi-final and eventually finished third. It explains why their fans are hoping to see their team go all the way in the ongoing transfer window.

However, to achieve that, they will first have to get past Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe in the pool. It will not be an easy outing for Bafana Bafana. Nevertheless, Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala is convinced the national team can surprise those who are writing them off.

It's a nice draw, an interesting one. We are going to play against Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe. In the previous Afcon we did well, so obviously the expectations are very high and we all know what we need to do as players.

“We have a strong squad that can take the nation to the next level and make the nation proud, so we are hoping that this time we will go all the way.

“We are familiar with those countries [Angola and Zimbabwe]. Those are going to be interesting games. What's nice is that we have a lot of teams in South Africa that are participating in Caf competitions. With the experience that we have, it's going to help us a lot at Afcon,” Mvala concluded.

Before the 2025 Afcon, Bafana Bafana hope to sharpen their players with the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March.
