Nabi makes a bold Soweto Derby promise & explains fielding unfit Mdu

Coach Nasreddine Nabi experienced his first Soweto Derby on Saturday as Kaizer Chiefs controversially fell to old rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.

The Glamour Boys were impressive from the first whistle and had done everything to stop the Buccaneers from scoring. Amakhosi also had some great chances to punish Bucs but they lacked much-needed composure in the final third.

Chiefs were eventually undone in the stoppages by a controversial penalty that was converted by Patrick Maswanganyi. It was the Sea Robbers' fourth win in a row over the Glamour Boys across all competitions.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi has now made a bold promise before the second meeting that will be played later in the season.

“Uh I feel like the derby was good, what was missing today was goals, but I thought we were very good and we promise next time there will be more goals,” Nabi stated.

The former AS FAR Rabat coach then explained why he had to field the 20-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala who was not fully fit to play, “About Shabalala, he is coming from an injury and we didn’t really have… uh he’s been our best player so far.

“When you play a derby you want your best players to be on the field, even if they are not 100%; we felt he could give us something for 60-70 minutes. But when we noticed that he’s fatigue was starting, we decided to sub him off,” Nabi concluded.

The next assignment for Chiefs will be on Tuesday against AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium.
