Nabi – ‘People were surprised when Morris joined Chiefs but…’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed Tashreeq Morris's immediate impact on the team despite being a surprise signing this past transfer window.

Morris joined Amakhosi from SuperSport United, ending a three-month stint with Matsatsantsa having signed for them in October as a free agent.

He made his Chiefs debut in the Betway Premiership clash against AmaZulu FC on Tuesday. The two sides played to a 2-2 draw.

The 31-year-old forward also featured when the Soweto giants downed Stellenbosch FC 1-0 in the league match on Friday evening.

Nabi believes Morris is the ideal striker for their system. He explained that the player’s ability to hold the ball up allows them to utilise a long ball strategy more effectively, giving the team time to advance up the field.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the performances of fellow new signings Thabo Cele and Glody Makabi Lilepo, highlighting their contributions in the recent matches against Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu, and Stellenbosch.

NABI ON MORRIS, LILEPO & CELE

“Every time when you recruit new players, you have to do your due diligence to get the right fit for the team,” said Nabi.

“And we feel that we did a very good due diligence to get players who could help right away, because in December or January, you need to bring a player that is ready to help right away.

“So, it’s not like in the big window. Thabo [Cele], he's a player that we have been following, he's a player that likes to [play], he's a player we want, we want those kind of players who are brave, who wants to play.

“Tashreeq [Morris], I believe most of people were surprised that Tashreeq goes to Kaizer Chiefs, but you can see the qualities that he brings to the team.

“Now, we can play the ball up, he can hold it, he can give us enough time to get up there. [Glody Makabi] Lilepo, we believe that he hasn't even started, because we know that he can do more than what he's doing.”
