Nabi provides Chiefs injury update ahead of Sundowns showdown

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has allayed fears that youngster Mfundo Vilakazi suffered a bad injury, while providing a positive update on George Matlou and Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Vilakazi went down with what appeared to be cramp in the latter stages of Chiefs’ 2-2 draw against Magesi FC and left the pitch limping while George Matlou and Mduduzi Mdantsane have not been seen for long.

The veteran tactician also expects Vilakazi to be involved in Saturday’s Carling Knockout quarter-final tie at home to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nabi not worried about Vilakazi’s availability

“Mfundo, we don’t believe that it’s an injury. It was just cramps from fatigue. He ran a lot and we believe he will be fine,” said Nabi after Wednesday’s match.

Meanwhile, Mdantsane was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with a broken jaw in July while Matlou has been on the mend for nearly one year, after knee surgery but Nabi says the duo are now nearing a return to action.

What is the situation of Matlou & Mdantsane?

“It’s true that those players have been injured for quite some time, all of them are done with the injury, and now recovering, integrating with the group, training but we need to be careful how we integrate them,” Nabi said on Thursday as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Matlou has been out for like a year, we need to give them time to train, get fitness up and get time to play friendly games, being back their preparedness and get connected with teammates again before incorporating them in official matches again.”

Chiefs will be hoping for a return to winning ways against Sundowns on Saturday while they also look to avenge last month’s league loss to the Brazilians.
