Nabi warned against making Sirino mistake again: ‘Chiefs have no players’

After his exploits against SuperSport United in the Carling Knockout's Round of 16, Gaston Sirino flopped in the Premier Soccer League outing against the same opponent.

He struggled to make a positive impact at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and was subbed in the second half. The Swanky Boys ended up winning the game by a solitary goal scored by Tashreeq Morris.

Since joining the Glamour Boys as a free agent a couple of months ago, the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder has managed three assists and two goals in five matches across all competitions.

Former Chiefs attacker Junior Khanye argues it was not wise for coach Nasreddine Nabi to sub the 33-year-old despite his struggles.

‘You don't sub Sirino' – Nabi told

“When you look at the game overall, Sirino was nowhere to be seen but you don’t sub Sirino,” Khanye said as quoted by iDiski Times.

“He is one of the best at Kaizer Chiefs. He is a special player not just at Kaizer Chiefs but even in the PSL. He is the player that makes Kaizer Chiefs look glamorous. He makes them look like they can challenge for the league or any trophy.

“When Chiefs has the ball Sirino can move anywhere, he is playing sort of a free role. Once he starts combining coming in central and there is no cover he is going to finish you. Decision-making, brain, skill, and technique, are something else.

“The coach saved him and subbed him but truly speaking he doesn’t have players,” he concluded.

Sirino is expected to start on Wednesday against Magesi in the Premier Soccer League outing.
