Nedbank Cup 2025: Kaizer Chiefs road to the semis

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are set to play Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final outing to be played at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

This will be a massive chance for the Soweto giants to claim a win that will bring them closer to their first major title for a decade. It will also be revenge against Masandawana, who eliminated them from the Carling Knockout and went on to do a double against them in the Premier Soccer League.

But how did the Glamour Boys find themselves in the last four of the annual competition that will see the winner represent Mzansi in the Caf Confederation Cup?

Amakhosi were paired with minnows Free Agents in the Round of 32, with the match being played at the FNB Stadium.

The Glamour Boys showed no mercy as they went on to register a massive 4-0 win against the lower-tier outfit. The first half ended 2-0 thanks to a brace from experienced and quick winger Pule Mmodi.

Inacio Miguel and Ranga Chivaviro scored the other two goals for the hosts as Free Agents ended the game with 10 men owing to the sending off of Saheed Adebayo.

The next hurdle for Chiefs was a challenging and unpredictable one; they were to play a fellow Premier Soccer League side Chippa United.

It was a good outing for Nasreddine Nabi-led men who did well to get a 3-0 win. Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino scored the lone goal in the initial half at the FNB Stadium.

Inacio Miguel and Pule Mmodi then struck a goal apiece to send the Soweto outfit to the last eight of the annual competition.

It got even tougher for Amakhosi in the last eight as they were to get past Stellenbosch at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Stellies came into the match as favourites owing to their good season as opposed to Chiefs. But once again, Amakhosi shone; Inacio Miguel scored early through a penalty to give his team a first-half lead.

Despite an Andre de Jong equaliser, a Pule Mmodi's controversial equaliser and a late strike by Mfundo Vilakazi sealed the deal for Chiefs. They will now play Sundowns, hoping for nothing but an extended good run in the Cup outing.
