New Chiefs signing raves about former coach – ‘He pushed us every day’

The Amavubi shot-stopper is among the new faces at the Glamour Boys ahead of the new season.

Fiacre Ntwari was one of the top performers in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign with former team TS Galaxy.

The 24-year-old kept eight clean sheets in the 18 league games he played, and 13 in 32 matches across all competitions.

It was an excellent performance for the custodian who had joined the Rockets at the beginning of the campaign. Chiefs eventually signed him.

Who helped Ntwari deliver?

The Rwanda international says his development in the PSL was largely boosted by Greg Etafia who was the goalkeeping trainer at Galaxy.

“Etafia played a big role in my first season because he was a keeper in this league for a long time,” the custodian told iDiski Times.

“So, he’s sharing the experience he has and pushing us every day. He always likes to tell me every game, ‘Listen my boy, you are the best goalkeeper,’ so it motivates me so much. Yeah, Etafia is my legend.”

What is expected from Ntwari?

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is under pressure to help the Glamour Boys get their rightful place in South African football.

Last season, they laboured to a 10th place finish in the Premier Soccer League which saw them miss the MTN8 quarter-final.

Among the reasons for their inconsistencies was the goalkeeping department. The custodians conceded easy goals which saw them change the keepers – Bucs started with Brandon Petersen before Itumeleng Khune and eventually Bruce Bvuma.

Ntwari will have to step up and show he is better than Amakhosi's current goalkeeper Bvuma. The Rwandan is comfortable with his feet meaning he might have an advantage over the two keepers.
