A new name has emerged on Wydad Casablanca’s transfer targets list as the club’s head coaching is looking to reunite with another former Mamelodi Sundowns player.
Mokwena has been preparing the team for nearly three weeks now following his move to the North African side last month.
He has made a couple of acquisitions to enhance his squad as they aim to recover from their sixth-place finish in the previous season of the Botola Pro.
So far, Wydad have signed Abdelali Mhamdi, Jawad Khalouk, Mohamed Moufid, Mohamed Rayhi, Hamza Sakhi, Nabil Marmouk, Zakaria Nassik, Nasim Chadli, Ade Oguns, Ayman Dairani, Bodda Mouhsine, Jawad Khalouk and Mouad Enzo.
RULANI MOKWENA LOOKING REUNITE WITH FORMER SUNDOWNS FORWARD
According FARPost, Red Castle are front runners for Toronto FC striker Cassius Mailula’s signature with the Moroccan giants looking to reinforce their striking department.
The Major League Soccer outfit is said to be exploring on loan options in order for the forward to gain more game time.
The report added that the 23-year-old has already rejected a move to the Croatian side HNK Gorica who also wanted to utilise him this season.
Mailula has played only nine matches in all competitions for Toronto since making a move from the Brazilians.
It is no secret that Wydad are also targeting former Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu and Al Ahly star Percy Tau.
In an interview with South African Football Journalists Association (SAFJA), Mokwena elected not to speak about Percy Tau since he’s still attached to the Egyptian giants.
On the other hand, he admitted there’s a big possibility they could sign Zungu.
WHAT MOKOENA WHEN ASKED ABOUT TAU AND ZUNGU
“Will we see South African players [at Wydad]? I don’t know, the players you’ve mentioned, I can speak about Bongani Zungu because he’s not attached at the moment,” Mokwena said.
“There is a huge possibility. I’m a big Bongani Zungu fan, and I think everybody knows. I love Bongani Zungu as a person.
“This is what’s making him a top footballer. He’s an incredible human being, so we just have to see because it’s a bit more complicated than people think. It is a big possibility, and I think it’s something that we are considering.”
