Defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have made it to the Caf Champions League quarter-final.
They will be fighting for the crown alongside Al Hilal, MC Alger, AS FAR Rabat, defending champions Al Ahly, Esperance, and Pyramids. It is promising to be an entertaining and unpredictable phase.
Masandawana coach Miguel Cardoso hopes to help his team get the elusive second star in the continent's prestigious club competition. After failing to reach the latter stages since 2013 when they went all the way to the final before falling to Al Ahly, Bucs believe they are better placed to replicate the 1995 heroics.
However, former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye insists it will not end well for the South Africa duo.
Who will win the Caf Champions League title? Khanye makes his prediction
“The Al Ahly team is technically superior, their movement off the ball, their passing, the accuracy in the passing,” he told iDiski TV.
“I think this team will win this tournament because of the quality and the experience. I looked at the team that started [against Pirates], it’s not their regular team, still well done to Orlando Pirates because it’s not easy. I’ll give these boys credit, this is a big achievement we can’t lie about.
“Well done to [Jose] Riveiro for believing in young players that’s why I’m giving him credit, but Al Ahly is going to win the tournament especially with how they are playing currently. I think only in the second half that’s where they changed how they are playing, overloading the left side.
“That’s where they bring crosses, from the left but first half [Sipho] Chaine saved a ball coming from central,” he concluded.
