Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo has completed a move to North African club from the Betway Premiership side Cape Town City.
The move ends widespread speculation surrounding the left-footed striker, who attracted interest from numerous local and international teams.
City coach Eric Tinkler hinted Mayo’s exit during the MTN8 launch saying the club would make an announcement in due course after the striker was noticeably absent from the training.
Mayo has signed a three-year contract with Algerian club CR Belouizdad, securing his future there until June 2027.
MAYO COMPLETES A MOVE TO ALGERIAN CLUB
“Fatherhood of the May Blues, Mayo Khanyisa of South Africa's national team. The 24-year-old officially joins Blouzdad's new team on a three-year contract,” the club announced on social media.
Belouizdad fended off competition from several high-profile clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Raja Casablanca (Morocco), and Club Brugge (Belgium).
Mayo became the mainstay for the Citizens after joining from Richards Bay FC in the middle of 2019/20 season. At the time, the Natal Rich Boyz were still competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He went on to be the main man upfront for the Western Cape side. In the 2022/23 campaign he was a joint top goal scorer along with Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns by 12 goals.
Overall, the 25-year-old forward rattled in 29 goals in 93 matches he played for Cape Town City in all competitions.
He becomes the second South African player to leave PSL for North African team after Elias Mokwana penned a deal with Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
Bongani Zungu could be the next with Rulani Mokwena having confirmed Wydad Casablanca’s interest in the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder.
