Orlando Pirates Transfers: Mofokeng on the radar of North African giants

Published on by

Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng has reportedly emerged as one of the players being targeted by Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Mofokeng has become a key player for Pirates in the last one-and-a-half seasons with his rise seeing him linked with Spanish giants Barcelona.

Now, the interest is spreading and the Cairo Red Devils are reported to have put him on the list of players they want to sign in January.

According to Al-Jumhuriya, Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller is impressed with the performances of ‘Rele’ and feels he can be a great addition to the squad if a deal is agreed.

How do Al Ahly plan to approach Rele transfer?

Koller has already watched Mofokeng closely following his team’s goalless draw with Pirates in the CAF Champions League group stage at the Orlando Stadium last month and is believed to be looking forward to the second leg.

Al Ahly want to further assess the 20-year-old when the two sides clash in the second leg in Cairo on January 18 before making a decision on whether an offer can be made to Pirates.

The Egyptian giants are reportedly close to parting ways with Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau, with his departure set to free up space on their quarter of foreign players, which Rele could fill in, although Brazilian forward Ewerton has also been reported to be on their radar.

It, however, remains to be seen if Al Ahly will show serious interest in the winger who has scored five goals and provided nine assists in 22 games, and is considered one of the untouchables at Pirates.
