The youngster makes a return to the team that developed him before his unsuccessful stint with the Sea Robbers.
Premier Soccer League side Chippa United have confirmed the signing of Orlando Pirates winger Azola Matrose ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The Chilli Boys have been one of the busiest teams in the ongoing transfer window in their bid to have a stronger and more competitive team to challenge for domestic Cups in the new campaign.
Matrose rejoins the team after an unsuccessful stint with the Sea Robbers, who have been getting established players to help them challenge for the league and have an impact in the Caf Champions League.
Chippa confirms Matrose re-signing
The 21-year-old was sold to Bucs in the 2022/23 season after his impressive debut in the South Africa top-flight football in the previous campaign where he played 14 games, scoring a goal and an assist despite being a teenager.
He played at the club on loan from Bucs to help him complete his high school education, before joining Pirates last season. However, injuries did not make it easy for him, and when he recovered, he played for the reserve team where he played three games and scored as many goals.
The Chilli Boys have now confirmed his arrival, “Chippa United FC is thrilled to announce the return of Azola Matrose, who has signed a three-year contract with a two-year option. We are excited to have him back after his transfer to Orlando Pirates FC,” the club, through its chairman Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi confirmed.
“We would like to thank Orlando Pirates FC for the smooth and healthy business relationship during this transfer. Azola’s return marks an important moment for our club as he will play a big role in the upcoming 2024/25 Premier Soccer League.”
