Percy Tau Transfer: Lion of Judah finds a new home

Published on by

Qatar Sports Club have confirmed the signing of Bafana Bafana international attacker Percy Tau.

The 30-year-old was released by Egyptian champions Al Ahly a couple of days ago after a four-year stay. During his stint with the Red Devils, the South African won 12 major trophies domestically and abroad.

However, he fell out with coach Marcel Kohler late last year, and the Swiss proposed his exit. Initially, the former Mamelodi Sundowns player had been linked to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Zamalek SC, and Wydad Athletic Club, but he eventually chose Qatar.

Qatar SC announce Tau's arrival

At the King, Tau is expected to help them battle relegation and at least help the team get into a respectable position.

Qatar SC have so far played 12 games in the league, managing three wins, a draw, and eight losses. They are placed 11th on the table with 10 points, three more than Al Khor who are at the bottom after a win, four draws and seven losses.

Tau might make his debut against second-placed Al-Sadd on January 23.

Tau has reportedly signed an initial six-month deal with an option to extend by a year if his team survives relegation.

He will join former Al Ahly teammates Badr Benoun and Ahmed Abdelkader and Ben Malango who was playing for Raja AC.

Apart from helping Qatar SC survive the axe, Tau has an opportunity to prove to coach Hugo Broos that he still is an important member of the Bafana Bafana team ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
