Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau finally completed his widely reported move to Qatar after weeks of speculation over his future.
Tau was unveiled at Qatar SC on Monday, confirming what had been in the news for the last few days, while also bringing an end to his highly successful career at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Al Ahly are believed to have received R8.5 million for Tau, who had six months remaining on his contract, while the player is now set to make big money at the relegation-threatened team.
What will Percy Tau earn in Qatar?
Tau was earning $1.2 million (R23 million) per year at Al Ahly, translating to $100,000 (R1.9 million) per month, but is not set to see his salary go up more than eight times as he is reported to have agreed a monthly salary of R16.8 million.
As per Qatari outlet Al Arab, the “Lion of Judah” has signed a six-month contract that will see him try to help save the club from relegation and if they survive, the deal will be extended by a further two years.
Qatar SC are second from bottom in the 12-team Qatar Stars League with just 10 points from 12 matches, having won three and lost eight games so far, with their tally juts three better than basement side Al Khor.
Bafana ace had great stint in Egypt

Tau fell out of favour with Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller at the end of last season with his playing time significantly reduced and has made 15 appearances this season, most of them as a substitute, scoring three goals, all in the CAF Champions League.
In total, Tau made 126 appearances for Al Ahly and scored 30 goals while providing 14 assists. He won a total of 11 trophies, among them two league titles and as many Champions League crowns.
Tau joined Al Ahly in August 2021 after being lured by former coach Pitso Mosimane following his unsuccessful spell with Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion.
