Petersen lauds Nabi arrival: ‘They are making the light shine again

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is delighted with the new energy that has been brought by coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team.

Amakhosi have gone nine seasons without silverware, but last season it got worse as they ended up finishing 10th on the Premier Soccer League table. The Glamour Boys management decided to make changes starting with the technical team.

Nabi was given the mandate after serving AS FAR Rabat for a season. The Soweto Giants also signed seven new players in their bid to change their fortune.

In the 2024/25 edition, Chiefs have played three league matches, recording two wins and a loss in the process. However, the majority of South Africans are impressed with what they have so far seen at Naturena.

What has Nabi brought to Chiefs?

“I think there’s a difference, it’s just that energy, that belief you know, it’s always been there but I think that light was dimmed a bit because of the past seasons,” Nabi told the media.

“But with the new technical team coming in, it’s just taking that thing off the light and making it shine again, if you look at the bulk of the players we have, it’s players we’ve had there for a while.

“So it’s just that belief and energy that they’ve brought to the team, making players hungry for the game again, wanting to achieve, wanting to be better, wanting to be the best.

“Playing for a team like Kaizer Chiefs' caliber, you want to be the best. Whether it’s in your position or as a team, I think it’s that mindset of belief and that energy they brought to the team, for me it’s one of the big differences.”

Petersen has been out of action due to injury and will have to prove in training that he is better than new signing Fiacre Ntwari to be considered as the club's first-choice keeper.
