Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale has declared his side the favorites to emerge victorious in the upcoming Soweto derby.
The two South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs and the Sea Robbers, are set to clash in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, February 1st, at FNB Stadium.
Motale believes that Pirates have been displaying impressive football in recent matches, despite facing challenging opponents. He is confident that they are well-prepared to meet Chiefs' challenge.
MOTALE SAYS PIRATES ARE FAVOURITES GOING INTO THE SOWETO DERBY
“Pirates have the upper hand going into the Soweto Derby,” Motale told KickOff.com.
“Playing against a PSL side in the Nedbank Cup better prepares Pirates to secure another three points on Saturday in the league.

“In their last five games, Pirates have been playing good football. The match yesterday was relatively easy for them, as Richards Bay has been struggling recently. They could not rise to the challenge.”
Motale believes that Chiefs' significant victory against Free Agents, an ABC Motsepe League side, in the Nedbank Cup is not an accurate indicator of their true readiness for the Soweto Derby.
“These days at Pirates, whoever is starting is just as capable as the player who started the previous week. I strongly believe that against Chiefs, Riveiro will field the same players he started with against Richards Bay,” he added.
“Kaizer Chiefs' readiness for the Soweto Derby cannot be assessed based on a win over an ABC Motsepe League club. You can't claim to be back to winning ways simply because of a victory over a team that appears to be struggling, a directionless team.”
