‘Pirates played more like Chiefs, losing balls cheaply! Tito will cost us & Mbatha is becoming lazy’

Defending Nedbank Cup champions Orlando Pirates advanced to the Round of 16 after a 3-1 win against Richards Bay at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

The supporters were unhappy with the display of the entire team a few days before the Soweto Derby against old rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

Midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi has been slammed for unnecessary showboating that put his defense under pressure on a few occasions. Have a look at what the supporters said after the Sunday outing.

The sun was too much for the players

Despite the goals, this was a disappointing performance by Pirates, so many errors in midfield and defense that we should have been punished for  – Don Maningi

We played a lot more like Kaizer Chiefs than ourselves. We lost balls very cheaply, Tito Showboating unnecessarily and putting pressure on our defense. The Combination between Thabiso Sesane and Tapelo Xoki is very shaky, there’s no proper communication – Yamms SA

Sloppy in the second half, but the Cup experience won us the match. Into the next round. We cannot complain. Well done boys – James Shikwambana

The sun was blazing hot; it was too much for even us fans chilling in the stands. I understand why the players were looking a bit exhausted – Magagula Senzo

Poor, poor, poor second-half performance! We couldn't even combine five passes. Our boys were already thinking about the Soweto Derby – Mo Ga No Jnr

Maswanganyi will cost us one day

Congratulations and Well done defending Champions we have to keep this trophy just like the MTN8 – Peace Kagiso Peace

Maswanganyi is a key player but he has to do little showboating. He will cost us one day – Tshepo Frederick

This is how you play football. Come Saturday, February 1, the scores will be Pirates 6-1 Kaizer Chiefs – Deacon George

The coach and the technical team need to look at Thalente Mbatha's performances, he's starting to develop an ego issue, or it is laziness. But he's no longer putting in 100% on his shift – Tshepiso Motaung

Patrick Maswanganyi in the first half was phenomenal, he reminded me of his first season at Orlando Pirates, however, his second-half performance was abysmal, sometimes the football that he plays leaves a lot to be desired. He has to stop showboating and play normal football, I still see a good player in him – Thulani Tshabalala
