Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena has backed the Buccaneers star for the PSL Footballer of the Season.
Thembinkosi Lorch's 2018/19 victory was the last time a Pirates player won the prestigious PSL Player of the Season award.
Since then, Mamelodi Sundowns players – Themba Zwane, Peter Shalulile, Teboho Mokoena, and Ronwen Williams – have dominated the honor.
This season another Brazilians player Lucas Ribeiro is said to be a strong favourite after outstanding performances in the league while Pirates’ Relebohile Mofokeng is also seen as a contender.
However, Teboho Mokoena believes Deon Hotto also deserves consideration for the award.

MOKOENA SAYS HOTTO SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR FOOTBALLER OF THE SEASON
“I’m amazed by Hotto, I mean, at his age [34] he still has the pace to run the whole 90 minutes. On the counter-attack, you still find him having that urgency,” Mokoena said on Soccer Beat podcast as quoted by FARPost.
“And I think hard work is the spirit that Hotto lives by every season, and I won’t be surprised if he’s nominated as one of the best players.
“I’m raising my hand and saying we need to have Hotto on that [Footballer of the Season] list. He gives top performances week in, week out. He doesn’t miss any match and he’s never been injured, salute to Hotto.”
