On Wednesday, a Premier Soccer League player was involved in a nasty accident at the Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa.

A car belonging to Sekhukhune United player Shaune Mogaila veered off the road and collided head-on with an oncoming Hyundai i10 which was being driven by a woman who was accompanied by her two daughters aged nine and 13 years respectively.

Unfortunately, the former perished on the spot with the others were rushed to the hospital. Mogaila, who was allegedly driving the car, fled the accident scene but later presented himself to the Police Station.

Alcohol, Cocaine and Marijuana confiscated

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Thabiso Makgato confirmed Cocaine, Marijuana, and alcohol were among the things confiscated from the BMW that caused the unfortunate incident.

“A female driver was transporting her nine-year-old daughter. The child succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead at the scene,” he stated.

The mother’s 13-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries and was transported to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital.

“We found four bottles of Don Julio alcohol. We also found a powder, which we suspect could be cocaine and weed edibles in his vehicle.

“It is alleged it is a soccer player [driving the BMW], based on the outcome of the verification of the driver’s license record.  Until such time all investigations have been completed, the identity of the driver involved shall be determined,”

What have Sekhukhune said?

Babina Noko indeed confirmed their player Mogaila was involved in that incident but couldn't provide more details since it is an active court case.

“Sekhukhune United FC regrettably learnt of the unfortunate incident involving one of our players, Shaune Mogaila,” they said in a statement.

“We would like to convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the minor who lost her life. Our thoughts and prayers are also with those who have been injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

“The Club is unable to comment further as the matter is before the court.”
