PSL makes significant decision on Royal AM

Published on by

In a significant development for the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the executive committee has recommended the cancellation of Royal AM's membership.

This recommendation, detailed in a circular sent to member clubs on Wednesday, seen by Afrik-Foot, is a consequence of the club's deep financial troubles.

These include a substantial tax debt leading to SARS intervention, a FIFA transfer ban due to unpaid player salaries, and the club's inability to pay staff in recent months.

After a failed attempt by a potential buyer to acquire the club from SARS, the PSL executive committee has now moved to recommend expulsion.

The matter will be put to a vote by the PSL Board of Governors – comprising all member clubs – at a meeting scheduled for April 10th.

ROYAL AM’S 11 MATCHES TO BE DECLARED VOID

Should the recommendation be ratified, the PSL season will continue with 15 teams, and the results of Royal AM's 11 matches will be declared void.

The NSL Handbook Article 5:4 reads, “Should a member club withdraw from the league after the start of the season but before the member concerned has played against every other member club in its division at least once, then all results of that member club will be expunged from the league as if the member club had not participated at all.”

With expulsion enforced, Royal AM’s involvement in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season will be completely disregarded.

This means all their results will be expunged, and the league will continue with a reduced number of 15 clubs.
